Fanaa is all over the place. Everyone is talking about this film and now the wait is over. But before we really tell you if it is a great movie or not, one thing is for sure Yash Raj as a producer are absolutely wrong in charging such a huge premium for this film. Let it run like any other film at the same price. The movie is brilliant, thought provoking and well pefrormed by all the actors but somehow the 2nd half of the film kills the beauty of the film.
Almost a good movie until things change in the second half and it becomes almost like any other filmy movie you have seen before. While comparisons may be given to Dil Se, but Fanaa is unique in many ways. The movie works only because it is Aamir and Kajol. The moment these stars come on the screen, you fall in love with them and enjoy every moment of their life. Their emotions, love and sorrow are most beautifully show on the big screen.
The Plot:
Fanaa means destroyed in love.
To choose between right or wrong is simple, but what defines one's life is the decision between the greater of two goods or the lesser of two evils. This is the advice that Zooni Ali Beg (Kajol) receives from her father just as she is about to venture out into the world on her own for the very first time. Little does she know that these very words will shape her life?
Zooni, a blind Kashmiri girl, meets Rehan Qadri (Aamir Khan), a local tour guide and an incorrigible flirt, who goes from city to city exploring their architecture and also the women. Zooni's friends warn her against this good-for-nothing roadside Romeo, but she chooses to ignore them. She is not one to be protected. It is now her time to discover life, and love. Is this really the right choice?
Rehan is fascinated by Zooni. He truly wants her to see life as it should be seen, in its many colours - and as he promises her, the time spent with him will be the most precious in all her life. Zooni sees Delhi, life and love like she never has before, because of Rehan.
What Zooni doesn't know is that Rehan has another side of his life that he has kept from her - something that can not only change her life, but can also destroys it.
After watching the film one feels as if you have seen Fanaa and then the sequel of the film after the intermission. Kajol gets her eyesight and Aamir changes from an ordinary tourist guide to a high tech terrorist.
Kajol’s comeback is truly remarkable, the awards would be pouring in next year. Her minimal make up look is far more acceptable and she looks so good that anyone is bound to fall in love with her character.
Aamir once again proves his mantle. From his smashing entry as a fun loving guy till the end where he plays an intense and serious terrorist.
The chemistry between the two stars is one of the finest seen on the big screen. One of the scenes where Kajol tries to shoot Aamir and later he responds back with his gun will shatter the viewers.
Shayris could never be so entertaining like is in Fanaa. Truly some great ones incorporated in this film. “Tere dil mein meri saaso ko pannah mil jaye, tere ishq mein meri jaan fanaa ho jaye.”
Suresh Menon, Jaspal Bhatti and Vrijesh Hirjee lend good amount of humour to this film. But wished this film was fun all over instead of becoming a drab in the second half.
While the story and the script is quite good and so are the dialogues -- you are quite amazed how superficially the film is treated in the second half.
The time transition is shown very abruptly.
Kajol has a kid because of her one night stand with Aamir!
When Aamir escapes from a hijack, he lands up at Kajol’s house. Wow what destiny or shall we say Bollywood style landing!
Kajol find his father (played by Rishi Kapoor) floating below ice when he falls off from a cliff. Now that’s amazing coincidence.
Even when Kajol was blind, she could sense people from their voice and smell so how come she cannot recognise Aamir when her returns. This time she can even see (her eyesight is back due to an operation which Aamir himself had inititated) Aamir and all her friends knew about him. No pictures of Aaamir Kya? They all had gone for a trip to Delhi and they never clicked any pictures of the two love birds and the beautiful Delhi monuments. Not possible boss!
Incredible India must award this film as this is perhaps one of the movies where Indian tourism is showcased just like they do for South Africa and Switzerland in other Bollywood films.
The action sequences are shown badly and not exciting at all.
Lara looks hot in her short appearance. Give us more of her…
Tabu is terrible and perhaps did not do justice to her character. She is wasted in this film.
And yes so is Shiney Ahuja and there is no Abhishek Bachchan as was reported earlier on TV.
The music by Jatin-Lalit is regular, catchy and has the right mix. Very colourful and intoxicating are the visuals in the songs.
Some of the special effects are very badly done. Like the rain song one and when Rishi Kapoor falls from the cliff.
Kirron Kher is impressive and so is Rishi Kapoor. Interestingly in one scene they have shown a photo frame where you can see actual pictures of both the actors while they were still young. Never knew that Kirron Kher looked so gorgeous!
So the final verdict. Go for this film.
Emotion packed, truly a delight this summer.
