Karan Johar today has so much funds that he can’t figure out where he can make his movie look more expensive. But for new film makers, even though they have beautiful ideas and interesting scripts, they cannot execute them so efficiently.  For Subi Samuel this is a proud moment as he has attempted something new and alag. The film has a good story and pace but falters in the 2nd half. Also, the film has few characters and a short story that ends even before the excitement begins. The romance just does not work here so there is very little premise here for much entertainment. There is no high end action in this film and only relies on special effects at its disposal.

The Plot:

He was DIFFERENT...! He was ALONE...!

There is a death in the family of the Rastogi's. Hemant Rastogi has a cardiac arrest and he dies. The police take over the house and find out that the house and the family that lived within, is odd to say the least!!

Neighbours know precious little of the family and think they have seen someone walk the house at nights alone. They speak of the person as if he is a ghost!!! But no one can say for sure that there is anybody else living in that house other than Mr. Hemant Rastogi.

On further investigations, the police realize that there is another person who stays in the same house, Hemant Rastogi's son Tejas (Akshay Kapoor). A boy who has been hidden in the house by Hemant like he was some family secret!!

A boy who has never stepped out of the house for eighteen years and lived in the dark all his life. Why did Hemant have to treat his own son like this???

Enter Purva Rana (Dia Mirza), daughter of a philanthropist, who runs an institution for the orphans and for youngsters who have committed petty crimes. She and her institution seem to be the only way out for

Tejas to survive in this world which is alien to him. Purva too, willingly comes forth to help Tejas, but one look at him and she knows that she has not seen anyone like him before. He looks different, acts different, is different!!!

Enthusiastic, Tejas steps foot out of the house in the light of the day for the first time in eighteen years wanting to see the world. A world which he has only View Alag Movie Stillsknown off from the books that he has read abundantly!!! Purva too is amused to see the child in Tejas wanting to grasp so much in such short time. Tejas soon realizes that he is not like the rest of the people around him and the world is not like he had imagined it to be. It is not black or white, as he had read in his books.

In fact, it has more shades of grey!!! It also does not take long for Purva to realize that Tejas is far from a child. He is a person who is specially gifted with powers that mankind has never seen or heard of!!! She is taken aback completely by this intriguing person. It is something that she had never imagined. At every juncture Tejas surprises her. As and when she thinks that she has a measure of him and knows him, he would do something more exciting, more beautiful, more powerful, to leave her amazed, awestruck, dumbfounded!!!

Alag is the production foray of well-known photographer Subi Samuel into Hindi movies. The film deals with emotional relationships and is directed by Ashu Trikha. The film also stars Vinod Khanna, Mukesh Tiwari, Sharat Saxena and Tom Alter.

Verdict:

New comer Akshay Kapoor has acted well enough to watch this film once at least. He plays his character to the fullest. You get involved with his character and just like Dia gets impressed by him, you too seem to enjoy his tricks and emotions.

Akshay’s make up by Anil Nayk also looks natural though Dia looks as if she had to head for a party after the shoot all the time.

The script looks weak and half baked. The film gets interesting in the first half but 2nd half seems to end too early without any conclusions or any interesting incidents. The canteen scene, the pigeon scene, the ground shock scene and the scientist experiment are the only elements to the story. Wish there was more action oriented plots like it was in MI3.

Interesting timing just a week before Krrish. Akshay Kapoor even dances like Hrithik in one aongs. Call it coincidence or deliberate?

Dia Mirza looks cute but does not have much to perform here.

The music is quite nice but somehow does not gell at all with this film. In fact the film would have been better without any songs. The background score sucks and irritates.

The onscreen chemistry between Dia and Akshay fails to work. Maybe friends, bro-sis, but lovers no way.

The film is worth watching on DVD or TV. Perhaps the sequel to this film will be more interesting as Subi plans to make it with a higher budget. Interesting effort way to go Subi!
