SRK, Preity invest heavily for IPL franchises
Bollywood and cricket have always had an association and affinity for one another. On Thursday, Bollywood biggies Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta alongwith business tycoons like Mukesh Ambani and Vijay Mallaya invested a whopping $723.6 million to win the franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Premiere League which is based along the lines of English Premiere Leagues will have cities being franchised by big shots who need to be associated with the state. With cricket being a high-profile game, Bollywood wants to cash in on some popularity and thus the investment on selected teams by them and business giants.
Every team representing the state has been granted a total 8 overseas players to play in the league matches which will indirectly benefit the players. The money made out of the matches will be divided as 70-30% basis between the State level and BCCI cricket boards, which will then grant 26% of the money from the state level earned money.
More investment from Bollywood and business is expected to pour in for IPL to make it big in India.
