Flashback 2007: Domestic Box Office Report

The end of the year again had a lot to thank to the baap of box office hits, Akshay Kumar, who managed a superhit opener at a time of defaulters at the B.O. Welcome got a thunderous opening this month, earning over Rs. 34 crores in its first week itself. So as we expect more records to tumble, Welcome continued to pile on riches this month.

A special mention for a very special film, Aamir Khan’s directorial debut Taare Zameen Par which despite a slow start, is doing immensely well at the big cities. After getting rave reviews and a stiff competition from Welcome, the sensitive and sensible film became the talk of the town and the intellects call it one of the finest films ever made in Bollywood. The film has earned an impressive over Rs. 16 crores in its first week itself and continues to run super strong at the major centers.

The other films which had little luck at the B.O were: Khoya Khoya Chand (a disaster), Dus Kahaniyan (9.79 crores but overall a below average to flop), Strangers (disaster), Hanuman Returns and Showbiz (the new releases were very disappointing with only 10-15% collection all over).

The film of the month goes to Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Nana Patekar, Anil Kapoor, Feroz Khan, Paresh Rawal starrer Welcome, who managed to pull out a good run at the B.O. with their good performances despite an average storyline.
