Flashback 2007: Domestic Box Office Report
November
November 9 in the history of Indian cinema will be remembered as the day of the clash of the Titans but with only a lone winner at the end. Saawariya proved to be a no-match to the biggest film of the year, King Khan starrer Om Shanti Om directed by Farah Khan. The joint production of Farah Khan and SRK’s Red Chillied Entertainment, was heavily marketed by Eros entertainment. The film broke almost all the box office records of being the biggest opener and grosser in a long, long time. The film crushed Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya and continues to earn riches at both the domestic and overseas box office. Till date, as I write this review, OSO has earned rollicking Rs. 85.31 crores within 8 weeks of its release.
The films which did a poor show includes the much-anticipated Saawariya, Vivek Agnihotri’s Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal (was an average to below average grosser), Madhuri Dixit’s Aaja Nachle (was an average groseer) and the flop release, Gauri-the unborn.
The film of the month goes to who else but Om Shanti Om. The film has been labeled the biggest blockbuster ever at the box office.
