WOW… Now stand up and salute the film which despite an average script went on to become a national icon and slogan for patriotism. If not for Shah Rukh Khan, the film would have fallen face first like other sports films like Goal. The film got up the ladder slowly and steadily to become one of the blockbuster hits of the year. With word-of-mouth promotion, almost everyone wanted to see the film, not once but over and over again. The Yash Raj film ran over 10 weeks’ long period and earned nearly 64 crores at the box office.

Synopsis: The story revolves around a hockey coach for a girl’s team and a young Sikh girl who wants to join the hockey team but does not get the approval of her parents. This time Shah Rukh won’t be playing the happy-go-lucky guy, instead he is a little sad in life. He works hard to achieve his aim that is to see the Indian tri-coloured flag hoisted with all the other countries’ flags. He makes the girls undergo a rigorous exercise regime. Later on the team faces a lot of struggle when they go to Australia to play for the women’s world cup. Chak De India is all about playing for your dignity and respect. This Yash Raj Banner will be full of emotions on the field, energy and a great storyline.

The film’s script and storyline was average but its execution by Shimit Amin was top notch. The reality element due to the extracts from ex-hockey captain and Coach Mirranjan Negi and Shah Rukh Khan’s immaculate portrayal of Kabir Khan gave a new life to the film. The Chak De! Girls along with SRK became the talk of the town with their varied personalities discussed at every tea-stall and cafeteria. The film with its undying spirit to inspire became a huge success. Now whoever said SRK should only stick by lovey-dovey roles can take a walk!
