Akshay Kumar does it again and saves a film which lost track in the first half itself. Priyadarshan treks different territory of supernatural comedy with a lot of scientific intricacies thrown in for the Indian audiences to gulp down. The film was a major hit all the entres and primarily due to the raging hit number by Pritam, Hare Ram Hare Ram. The film went on to run for over 10 weeks’ time and earned Rs. 53.7 Crores at over 650 screens in India itself. It was declared a superhit within weeks of its release.
Synopsis: Bhool Bhulaiya, a comic thriller dealing with human psychology, in the beautiful locales of Rajasthan. Bhool Bhulaiya is the Hindi remake of the critically acclaimed Malayalam blockbuster, Manichitrathazhu. The film was also remade in Telugu as Chandramukhi in 2005. The plot of Bhool Bhulaiya revolves around a small village whose denizens are very conservative and superstitious. The film tells the story of a young couple arriving at the ancestral mansion. Ignoring the protests of their superstitious uncle, they move in to mansion, when unusual and supernatural events begin to happen. The couple’s close friend, a psychiatrist is called in to investigate. Vidya Balan will be seen playing a Kathak dancer who suffers from split personality.
For me, the film is the best film of the year in terms of a novel script and storyline. The film deals with the psyche of the Indian audience who believe in ghosts and other superstitions which generally have a scientific basis to explain any such abnormal human behavior. Priyadarshan not only gave us a serious and well-made film but also shook our deep-rooted superstitious mind. Vidya Balan was top notch and do was Akshay Kumar though Shiney Ahuja was decent in his part. The film’s music became a rage with everyone and helped the promotions of the film. The film won the audience with the supernatural element and the scientific edge thrown in. I loved every bit of the film, especially the second half where Vidya and Akshay were a sight to watch. Kudos!!
