Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Victor Banerjee, Shruti Seth, Harris Masood, Jaaved Jaffery
Director: Siddharth Anand
Producer: Aditya Chopra
Music Director: Vishal-Shekhar
Screenplay: Habib Faisal
The film is a semi-hit but considering Yash Raj Films’ standards and the pre-release hype the film faired below expectations at the box office. The film opened huge at over 430 screens and ran for over 10 weeks’ time. The film earned Rs. 37.32 Crores and was among the successful films of the year.
Synopsis: Rajveer Singh is a pit-crew worker in a racing team with a passion for driving. He meets a music student, Radhika and instantly falls for her. He gets drafted into ‘Speeding Saddles’ -– a failing race team and transforms from Rajveer Singh to RV, the racecar driver. While his racing career takes off instantly, his love life also blossoms. A few months later, he is both a happily married man and one of the country’s best racers. Fatherhood and greater success follow and soon he is the Number 1 racecar driver in the USA, as well as the proud father of two kids. But as a result of a bad-racing accident, RV is hospitalized for a few months. When he tries to make a comeback, he realizes that he has been mentally scarred by the accident and has lost his edge. His life now takes a turn for the worse and after a string of failures, he is forced to auction his house and move with his family to a run-down neighborhood. The family struggles to survive a life that they are not used to, using a mixture of fantasy and cheerfulness to pull through in the face of adversity.
The film had a novel approach with romance, fun element, family drama and the passion for sports thrown-in in bits and pieces. The film holds you from starting till the end with some good performances from the cute couple and their kids. The music of the film was also popular. The film lacked a nice solid punch or twist in the tale to make the film worth a more millions. Nevertheless, a nice film that I wouldn’t mind watching again.
