Every time I’m reminded of this film, it brings a smile to my face thinking about the Sikhni from Bhatinda whom I enjoyed like a dessert after a heavy supper. Kareena-Shahid’s last offering proved to be one of the sweetest and simplest love stories made in the year which managed both critical and popular acclaim and was a box office success too. Within weeks of its release, it was labeled as a super hit and earned nearly 30 Crores with gross collections of 29.95 crores in 8 weeks’ showing.

Synopsis: Kareena Kapoor has a new, completely bindaas role and Shahid Kapoor in a completely mellowed down one. The film starts off with the story of an industrialist Aditya, whose girlfriend is getting married to some other man. Seeing his world crumble, he leaves the hum-drum celebrations and chaos and gets into a train to travel to where his destiny wishes to take him. Cut to… Aditya bumps into Geeta (Kareena Kapoor), Sikhni from Bhatinda. Geeta is leaving Mumbai to elope with her boyfriend in Manali. Geeta is an irritant and tests Aditya’s patience to an extent that they are left stranded on the railway station. Through a lot of highs and lows, they finally reach Geeta’s hometown Ambala where her relatives mistake them to be as lovers. But as fate had otherwise decided for Geeta, she realises that her boyfriend is not ready to accept her anymore. All through the journey, Aditya has slowly realised the other side of Geeta and has started to fall for her. And by the time, Geeta realises her feelings for Aditya, we realise that their mistake was actually going to be the truth about their destiny. Sweeeeet!!

The film’s simple storyline and Kareena’s natural flair with effortless before-the-camera performance managed to give this otherwise ordinary film the touch of Midas. The audience fell in love with Kareena’s character and the whole look of the film. The film’s music by Pritam was a chartbuster success with all the songs making their way into your iPod and mobile phone downloads. Overall, a nice and crisp love story which can be enjoyed by the entire family.
