And… The Indian Idol 3 is Prashant Tamang

Amidst a lot of fan-fare and power-packed performances from the 13 amazing contestants from the Indian Idol 3 gala round, the Indian Idol for the third season was chosen. And the crown went to the participant from Darjeeling, Prashant Tamang who vanquished his rival AMit Paul in the grand finale of the two-month long talent hunt. The runner-up, Amit Paul from the city of Shillong was also a front runner for the title. The final verdict was embraced by the four judges of Indian Idol 3 and Bollywood hunk John Abraham.

Finally, the mega show which was held in New Delhi came to an end with the announcement of the winner. The result was declared by none other than John Abraham himself. The judges of the reality show: Javed Akhtar, Anu Malik, Udit Narayan and Alisha Chinoi were at the stage along with hosts Mini Mathur and Hussain.

The show which began two and a half months back saw huge crowds of hopefuls choking the gates at the auditions held across the nation and abroad as well. For the first time, participants from US, UK, Dubai etc. were also selected for the competition. From preliminary audition stages to piano round to the gala round, the best of the best kept on moving ahead. Although a lot raised eyebrows were seen over the elimination of few contestants of the likes of Bhavin, Chang, Depali and Pooja Chatterjee.

A brief mention for the runner-up Amit Paul from Shillong, Meghalaya. He was among the top favourites to win the coveted title from the very start of the competition. With over 7 crores of votes pouring in through the last week of the Indian Idol third season, Prashant’s fan following from all over India, the police community and the north-eastern states won him the title.

The winner of this season’s Indian Idol hails from the northern region of West Bengal which otherwise is not a metropolitan city. With talents coming up from such regions of India, national integration will surely get a booster from such reality shows. And congrats to the constable in West Bengal police Prashant Tamang who proved to the world that where there is a will there is a way and glam world waiting for you!
