Movie Review: Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag- A brave attempt

The maverick filmmaker lives up to his name yet again! He playes the biggest gamble ever in the industry and the end result is a decent enough product. From the story to the characters the film is a mirror image of the magnum opus but is strikingly different in interpretation and setting.

Like many, I wrote off the film from day 1, but the film despite its shortcomings and frequent hiccups in pace, pulls off an interesting attempt at presenting Sholay’s village setting to Verma’s Mumbai underworld.

In a nutshell, dacoits are replaced by Mumbai underworld, Thakur is replaced by Inspector Narsimha and the dacoit Gabbar is now the underworld king Babban. Despite the changes, the characters of Veeru, Jai, Basanti, Thakur and Gabbar maintain their original identity. The film has been carefully made along the lines of the classic and the plot and the storyline is similar to it all along.
