Movie Preview: Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal

The film starring John Abraham, Bipasha Basu and Arshad Warsi, is based on the contemporary state of the Asian community in UK with soccer in the backdrop. The film also takes a pinch at racism at the professional level of sports in UK.

The film talks of a certain football club called Southall United Football Club which is going through its worst days. The club lacks funds, a coach, sponsors and all that makes for a successful soccer club. The crisis deepens as the city council sends an eviction notice to the club.

The club’s only hope is the Combined Counties Football League and the only savior is a passionate member of the club’s team, Shaan (Arshad Warsi). Soon, a rejected ex-player, Tony Singh (Boman Irani) joins them as the coach. Fighting all odds, Shaan and Tony work together to get the club out of its current state.

Another passionate soccer player, Sunny Bhasin (John Abraham) misses out a place in the national team because of evident racism. Sunny and Shaan didn’t get along well even though Sunny was in love with Shaan’s cousin sister Rumana (Bipasha Basu) who loves him too. But with Tony’s intervention, Shaan and Sunny keep their differences aside and play for the pride of the club and start to gain momentum in the football league.

But there is a twist in the tale as Sunny’s over ambitious nature makes him a pawn in the hands of Johny Bakshi (Dalip Tahil) a commentator and a frontman of the council who lures him away from Southall United. Real test is on when Sunny has to forego everything he wanted in life for his love for the game, for his love Rumana and his father.
