Bachchan starrer ‘The Last Lear’ to premiere at Toronto Filmfest
Amitabh Bachchan-starrer The Last Lear will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Festival next month.
The film, directed by Rituparno Ghosh, which also stars Preity Zinta, Arjun Rampal and Shefali Shah, has been selected to be screened at the gala premiere function of the festival on 9 September.
This is Bachchan’s first-ever full length English language film.
Bachchan and other members of the cast and crew of The Last Lear, an Arindam Chaudhuri presentation, are expected to attend the premiere, according to the producers Planman Motion Pictures.
This is the second time in the year that a film by Planman has been selected for an international film festival. Earlier, Dosar got selected for Cannes Film Festival.
Prof. Chaudhuri says, “The Last Lear is indeed a very important and powerful film. The story, Rituparno Ghosh’s direction, and the performances are all world class. I am sure this film will be appreciated as much by the world audience as by the Indians. We always wanted to be known as makers of good films and I can only say these are just our initial days!”
Rituparno Ghosh said, “It was a delight working with Amit-da. All this while I have been hearing that he is a thorough professional. But now I realize that it was only a partial description of what he is. Amit-da brings in so much warmth, sincerity and genuineness in his professionalism that the experience is truly endearing and enjoyable. Preity, Arjun and Shefali have also put in extremely sincere efforts into the film. The performances are indeed brilliant!”
Says Bhattacharjee, “The Last Lear is a powerful Indian English film, mounted and styled in a way that it appeals to the global audience. We are planning and programming the campaign in such a way that it becomes a truly international presentation from India. We can assure that the Toronto Gala Premiere will just be the beginning of an ambitious original Indian presentation.”
