Shilpa flick is a no show in UK

Despite all the hype and hoopla surrounding Shilpa Shetty’s maiden release after winning the Big Brother show, Anurag Basu’s Life In A Metro fell flat at the box office and has been outrightly rejected by the cinegoers all across the globe. Even Shilpa’s tremendously rising popularity couldn’t save the film from being labelled as the worst openers of the year. The film is doing very poor business in UK, USA and in Australia. The other release, Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Good Boy Bad Boy’ got a bad opening too in the UK. Meanwhile, Ta Ra Rum Pum and Provoked are rock steady at the UK box office.

    UK BOX OFFICE

Ta Ra Rum Pum: The Yash Raj film continues to impress in this region. It has slipped down from last week’s Position No. 13 to this week’s No. 15. In its third weekend, it has collected £ 69,842 with a net gross of £ 644,428 [approx. Rs. 5.23 crores]. It is currently showing at 46 screens and is a semi-hit in UK.

Metro: Despite its promotional hype and wide-spread distribution due to ‘Shilpa Shetty’ factor, the film has been rejected at all centres in UK. The film has debuted at Position No. 16 but the first weekend collections are just £ 55,234 [approx. Rs. 44.70 lacs] on 41 screens.

Good Boy Bad Boy: The Emraan Hashmi starrer got a very poor opening across UK as it debuted at Position No.29. The first week collections are not ver promising as it collected £ 7,964 [approx. Rs. 6.46 lacs]. It is currently showing at 11 screens.

Provoked (English): The Aishwarya starrer has been an above average release in UK and has already collected £ 475,354 [approx. Rs. 3.86 crores]. The film has slipped down from last week’s Position No. 30 to this week’s No. 43. In its sixth weekend, the film has collected £ 4,080 on 7 screens.

The Namesake: The Mira Nair film has been an average venture in UK, slipping down from last week’s Position No. 33 to this week’s No. 44. In its seventh weekend, the film has collected £ 3,877 on 7 screens with a net gross of £ 479,926 [approx. Rs. 3.89 crores].

It is currently showing at just one screen.

1 Ta Ra Rum Pum £ 1,518

3 Metro £ 1,347
4 Good Boy Bad Boy £ 724
5 Provoked (English) £ 583
5 The Namesake (English) £ 554

    US BOX OFFICE

The Namesake (English): This Mira Nair film is already a blockbuster hit across the US though it has moved down from last week’s Position No. 17 to this week’s No.18. The film continues to do great business and is currently showing at a mammoth number of 271 screens in US. The film’s collections at the box office refuse to die down as the film has collected $ 418,003 in its tenth weekend. The net collection for the film is $12,070,226 [approx. Rs. 49.24 crores].

Ta Ra Rum Pum: The film has slipped down from last week’s Position No. 27 to this week’s Position No. 44. In its third weekend, the film is currently showing at 44 screens and has collected $ 65,337 with a net gross of $ 768,802 [approx. Rs. 3.14 crores]. The film is doing average business on a whole.

Metro: Surprisingly again, the Shilpa Shetty starrer got a poor opening in US as well with the film debuting at Position No. 45. In its opening weekend, the film has collected $ 62,477 [approx. Rs. 25.50 lacs]. The film is currently showing at 35 screens.

    AUSTRALIA BOX OFFICE

Metro: Again a big surprise… Metro fails to get a good opening in Aussie land too. Despite Shilpa Shetty’ soaring popularity across the globe, her latest release got a feeble response here too. In its opening weekend, METRO has collected Australia $ 16,521 [approx. Rs. 5.63 lacs]. The film is currently showing at 10 screens.

Provoked (English): The Aishwarya Rai starrer finally makes a debut at the Aussies Box office and is currently showing on 19 screens. In its opening weekend, PROVOKED has collected Australia $ 26,686 [approx. Rs. 9.09 lacs]

Which proves what everybody already knows: Shilpa is more popular, interesting, and adorable just being herself, than following directions in some silly, simple-minded Hindi film.
