Special Report: Zee Cine Awards 2007
The event started with arrival of the introductory host Saif Ali Khan in an ambulance. It was supposed to be a joke in relation to his recent hospital stay. Two girls dressed as nurses accompanied him and, as per usual, he flirted with them. His jokes about the members of the film fraternity in the audience were a little tad to swallow, but overall his performance at this early stage was very well appreciated.
Bollywood’s newest and hottest babe Katrina Kaif delighted the audience with a dance performance that looked good on they eye, but failed to create any huge applauds. That is until Katrina’s boyfriend Salman Khan was pulled in from his seat from the front row, and he joined in the dance. Choreography of this particular segment was horrendous and Salman looked very out of place. Both lovers walked of the stage hand in hand.
Taking over the presentation, director Karan Johar joked with the attendees, while presenting some of the technical awards; the first of which he got for Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. A whole host of Bollywood wannabe babes then lit the stage with a dance routine to highlight the past few years, the highlight of which was a partially clothed Minissha Lamba, doing the Beedi Jalai Le item song.
Ritesh Deshmukh’s first segment to highlight the Best Film nominees was brilliantly done. He was dressed up as Jadoo and went into the audience to ask Krrish director Rakesh Roshan, as to why there was no Jadoo in the sequel. The second for the film Vivaah, he dressed up as Salman Khan and tackled a ‘Sooraj Barjatya’ on why he (Salman) wasn’t cast in the film.
Glamour girl Priyanka Chopra looked mean and moody in her get-up as she performed brilliantly to the Aaj Ki Raat song from Don for her little segment. She danced like a true professional, and this has to be, by far the best performance of the evening. If only it had been extended a little, its short length was the only drawback.
Urmila Matondkar was then given over the mantle as host and she decided to present her segment in both Hindi and English. Looking like a million dollars, her looks drew more applauds than any given to any of the winners of the night. This babe made sure that all her critics knew she was still very much ‘in’. Without a doubt the liveliest presentation of the evening.
Preity Zinta’s performance was good but the girl is a little overweight, which took the shine of her dance routine. Her make-up was bad and she genuinely looked very out of place. Where’s the party tonight was not the right song for her.
Saif Ali Khan and Karan Johar then did a duet which was very comedic. Saif called Rekha very hot, but everyone knows he has a fetish for older girls. He gave her an accolade by telling her that she was the best Umrao Jaan. Aishwarya Rai would have not liked that. Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Rishi Kapoor, Bappi Lahiri, and Vinod Chopra were highlighted in this piece.
Sexy lady on the floor? I don’t think so. Aishwarya Rai performed her song in oriental dress wear, which just didn’t have the same effect as the original. This performance did not kiya crazy anyone at all. Bland, rubbish, and Aishwarya not anymore desirable. A pathetic segment that we could have done without.
Britain’s darling Shilpa Shetty greeted the Malaysian audience with the traditional Islamic greeting, as she came on the stage to co-host with Karan Johar. She told Karan Johar where to stick it when he praised her recent achievements, saying that he was too busy looking at the Kajols, Ranis and Preitys, to have noticed her in the past 10 years.
The biggest surprise of the night has to be Abhishek Bachchan. He was given an over the top introduction (richly deserved we would say). His dance performance was very good but it struck gold when his fiancé joined him on stage. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai together on stage was not the only surprise in this segment. Kirron Kher also came and danced for a minute with Big B’s little baby. A great sight to see.
Other notable events within the event… The comic routine between Karan, Shilpa and Saif pulled in the most laughs of the day, with the final laugh from Shilpa. Ritesh Deshmukh returned in a hilarious Sexy Sam getup. Salman Khan was told by Katrina Kaif where to stand while presenting an award and he repaid the compliment by insulting her intelligence, asking her to read this – its in Hindi.
The event was missing one Mr Shah Rukh Khan, and he duly obliged to entertain towards the end. His Don routine was hi-tech and aptly performed. Made even better by the inclusion of Priyanka Chopra.
All in all, the event not that bad. A good fun day out.

Salman was the true show-stealer.
He captured all hearts with his first performance.
His homour-sense had us in splits.
It was the audience who was blunt & less energetic.
Ash’s act was completely out-of-place.
Zee Cine Awards was worth watching only because of Salman & Kat’z performance!
I’ll watch to salman khan performance zeecine award 2007
