Namastey London impresses even more

Domestic Box Office: Finally, there’s some good collection at the box office with Vipul Shah’s masala flick ‘Namaste London’ hitting the marquee with impressive first week collections over 60% and slowly inching up to 75% and above. The much-acclaimed film by Mira Nair though failed to create any stir at the box office, managed basking in good reviews. ‘Namesake’ has done poorly at most places with 15-20% collections.

This week at the box office:

• Namastey London: The Vipul Shah directed film got a major opening at the box office with 60% above collections in the first weekend itself. The film managed to be an above average in Northern India with good run in Central and Western India as well. The film is doing exceptionally well at the cineplexes in and around Delhi and Mumbai. The film earned Rs. 4,79,504 average/print this week.

• Namesake: For a film which got 4-5 star ratings by most of the film reviewers and critics, the collections are not at all an ego-booster. The Mira Nair film failed to make an impact at the box office due to its niche audience appeal. The film is one of most well-made films that got only a meager box office collection of 15-20% in its first weekend. The UTV production earned Rs. 2,16,103 avg/print this week.

• Just Married: The Pritish Nandy Communications’ film failed to create any ripples at the box office and is one of the worst ever by Fardeen Khan and has already been declared a flop in two weeks of its release. The film earned Rs. 51,873 avg./print this week

• Water: Deepa Mehta’s Oscar nominated film was a failure at the Indian box office as it catered to a niche audience like other Deepa Mehta and Mira Nair releases. The film despite an average run at the multiplexes was declared as a flop. It earned Rs. 42,578 avg/print this week.

• Hattrick: Ronnie Screwala’s last release bombed at the box office with poor collections in two weeks itself. The film has been declared a flop and earned Rs. 40,736 avg/ print this week.

• Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd: Farhan Akhtar production manages to keep a good run at the multiplexes in Delhi and Mumbai with average collections overall. The film has been declared as an above average grosser, earning Rs. 35,361 avg. /print this week.

• Nishabd: Ram Gopal Verma’s ambitious venture failed to stir up good box office collections for this Big B and newcomer Jiah Khan starrer. The film, despite being laced with good performances fell flat at the box office and has already been declared a flop. It earned Rs. 29,459 avg/print this week.
