Sony SAB to “axe” many shows for cricket

Sony Entertainment Television Asia’s sibling SAB TV is shutting shop to make way for cricket.

On the hitlist are shows like ‘Yes Boss’, ‘Mohalla Mohabbat Wallah’, ‘FIR’ and ‘Left Right Left’.

The producers of these soaps have been told to take, as they say in telly jargon, “a season’s break”. Only some of the mentioned shows will return, with a few being axed after the cricket tournament.

The World Cup in West Indies series begins next month and runs through to the end of April. SAB will turn into a cricket-only channel during this period and will relay all the World Cup action in Hindi, while MAX will air the English version.

The change applies to viewers in India only. In the UK, Sky Sports holds the rights to the Cricket World Cup.
