What now for Shilpa Shetty? Tony gives his thoughts
Did Shilpa win because her fans were well organised?
That is a very good question. Shilpa’s fan-base in the UK was not huge before the show. In fact, she was not as popular as Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai, or Amitabh Bachchan. None of her films have ever done well in the UK and she is generally not in the elite category of Bollywood actors. Now you would raise the question that as Shilpa was the only Asian in the house, and a known face to the Indian people, could it be that they voted in their masses for her? Again I would disagree. A certain percentage of the voters would have been the Asian viewers of the show, and they would have voted for Shilpa indeed, but that alone would not have been sufficient for Shilpa to win. She would require many non-Asians to vote for her also, and that is what has happened here. Shilpa won the vote by a fascinating 63% of the vote. Now this would not be rare or unexpected if the votes were between 2 or 3 contestants, but here we has a total of 6. Shilpa Shetty has become winner of Celebrity Big Brother by taking in 63% of the votes. That says something in itself.

Congratulations to Shilpa. she deserved to win, not because ofthe trouble, but because of what she had to offer and gave …… such a beautiful lady…. June Roche, Dublin , Ireland
NO DOUBT SHILPA WON BUT IT WAS ALL ABOUT POLITICS. IS TONY WATCHING THE SAME SHOW THAT THE WHOLE OF UK WAS! CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG BUT SADLY EVERYTIME SHILPA’S NAME WAS MENTIONED IN THE FINAL THEIR WERE MORE BOOS THAN CHEERS. THIS MUST BE A FIRST WHERE A WINNER GOT BOOED MORE THAN CHEERED! SHILPA WINNING WAS NOT A SUPRISE TO THE PUBLIC, IF SHE DIDNT WIN THEN UK WOULD HAVE BEEN BRANDED A RACIST COUNTRY. IT WAS SYMPATHY VOTES, IF IT WASNT FOR THE RACE ROW SADLY NOBODY WOULD HAVE NOTICED HER.
Shilpa has certainly managed to “act” superbly in BB to win the admiration of the British public. I don’t think there were many sympathy votes as such to contribute to her success. If you remember she repeatedly said to her housemates that “it was a game.” And what a super player she was to win the game. Let us see if Aishwarya or Sharukh can get in to the next BB (UK version) and win it? I think she should leave the filmworld and enter politics!!
Tony, my friend: Thank you, thank you for the best article I have seen about Shilpa/Big Brother. She really is a wonderful actress, so endearing, so eloquent. Unfettered from the nonsensical Bollywood genre, given good scripts and direction, who knows how high she will fly? God, please let her come West. Las Vegas, Hollywood, Broadway: just bring her over! Thanks again.
