What now for Shilpa Shetty? Tony gives his thoughts
What now for Shilpa?
As in the words of fellow Celebrity Big Brother contestant Danny Tourette, ‘Fu** Bollywood, go for Hollywood’, that is all I will say. The world is at her feet and offers from Hollywood will come for sure. Shilpa has more going for her than last year’s winner Chantelle, who was the first ever non-celebrity to win the show. Firstly, Shilpa is a very good actress. She may not have had the best of runs in Bollywood, but now big banners will have to stand up and take notice of her popularity in Britain. Yash Raj films make a ton and half from the UK Box Office, and with Shilpa headlining billboards of a future film from them, they will rake in even more. But firstly she has lots and lots of money to make from the UK alone. Newspapers and magazines will be looking for her interview, and will pay big bucks to acquire that. If someone like Jade Goody can be given £50,000 for an interview, then I am sure Shilpa will demand well over £150,000. She will also be approached in doing interviews for television programmes. There are dozens of daily shows that always interview reality show celebrities soon after the shows end, and I am sure we will see Shilpa on This Morning and Richard and Judy sometime this week. Being an actress, Shilpa might get an offer or two to star in some British television serials. But these shows tend to have storylines depicting white people, and Asian parts are hard to come by. And with Shilpa already an established Bollywood actress, this seems very highly unlikely. Channel 4 will want to make some money out of their ‘creation’, and might offer Shilpa a reality show of her own to host. Last year’s winner Chantelle is still presenting shows for Channel 4, and Jade Goody has become a millionaire out of starring in reality shows. There has been talk that Shilpa might star in a reality show based on Cricket to be screened on Sky One, but again Shilpa is now unlikely to sign on to host it.

Congratulations to Shilpa. she deserved to win, not because ofthe trouble, but because of what she had to offer and gave …… such a beautiful lady…. June Roche, Dublin , Ireland
NO DOUBT SHILPA WON BUT IT WAS ALL ABOUT POLITICS. IS TONY WATCHING THE SAME SHOW THAT THE WHOLE OF UK WAS! CORRECT ME IF IM WRONG BUT SADLY EVERYTIME SHILPA’S NAME WAS MENTIONED IN THE FINAL THEIR WERE MORE BOOS THAN CHEERS. THIS MUST BE A FIRST WHERE A WINNER GOT BOOED MORE THAN CHEERED! SHILPA WINNING WAS NOT A SUPRISE TO THE PUBLIC, IF SHE DIDNT WIN THEN UK WOULD HAVE BEEN BRANDED A RACIST COUNTRY. IT WAS SYMPATHY VOTES, IF IT WASNT FOR THE RACE ROW SADLY NOBODY WOULD HAVE NOTICED HER.
Shilpa has certainly managed to “act” superbly in BB to win the admiration of the British public. I don’t think there were many sympathy votes as such to contribute to her success. If you remember she repeatedly said to her housemates that “it was a game.” And what a super player she was to win the game. Let us see if Aishwarya or Sharukh can get in to the next BB (UK version) and win it? I think she should leave the filmworld and enter politics!!
Tony, my friend: Thank you, thank you for the best article I have seen about Shilpa/Big Brother. She really is a wonderful actress, so endearing, so eloquent. Unfettered from the nonsensical Bollywood genre, given good scripts and direction, who knows how high she will fly? God, please let her come West. Las Vegas, Hollywood, Broadway: just bring her over! Thanks again.
