RS MOVIE REVIEW: SALAAM-E-ISHQ (2007)
Pyar Ka Imtihan (In Sickness And In Health)
Tehzeeb (Vidya Balan) and Ashutosh (John Abraham) have a marriage that has is fair share of problems. The main one being that they are of different religions; her a Muslim and him a Hindu. Theirs is a love that has no limits. They will go to any lengths to prove what each other means to them. A perfect marriage… but then disaster strikes.
Tehzeeb is involved in an accident and she loses her memory. She has no recollection of Ashutosh or their love. It is now up to Ashutosh to re-ignite the love in Tehzeeb’s heart and to achieve this he has to go to great lengths.
John Abraham is mis-cast as the loving husband and fails to instil reality into his role. His performance is bland, with the role requiring a much more matured actor, one which John is not. John tries to do his best but just fails in many scenes. The final scene redeems him to some extent, but the overall performance is below par.
Vidya Balan, in her third film, has been given one of the best roles one could wish for so early in their career. Her last two films have shown that she is not your ordinary run-of-the-mill actress, and one destined for huge stardom. A ten out of ten rating for Vidya once again.
Nikhil Advani is once again at full form in this part too, but his decision of using John Abraham for the main role, is a big mistake. Nikhil and Vidya are brilliant, but two goods can’t do undo one wrong.
