RS MOVIE REVIEW: SALAAM-E-ISHQ (2007)
Khwab Aakhir Khwab Hain (A Man Can Dream)
Raju (Govinda) is your normal run-of-the-mill taxi driver who dreams of meeting the girl of his dreams on his next fare; a guy who always has a smile on his face and for whom the weight of the world’s problems is not something to cry over. Stephanie (Shannon Esra) is a beautiful girl who comes to India in search of her boyfriend and soon-to-be husband. Raju and Stephanie meet and fall in love, but both keep this a secret from the other.
Govinda may have impressed in the comedy riot Bhagam Bhag, but it is here where he shines. Playing the role of a taxi driver is aptly suited for Chi-Chi, and he never once lets his guard down, with each scene a masterpiece of acting. Just like when a sportsman is given one final chance to show his skills, that is exactly what it feels like when you watch Govinda. The years of experience and the immense talent that this actor has, is finally brought to the forefront, and at last Govinda is back.
Shannon Esra plays of Govinda’s performance and does well. It isn’t easy for a foreign actress to come to India and act in, what to her is a foreign language film. But, she does brilliantly. Her physique and looks also help a lot.
Nikhil Advani is at his best here and his direction is 100%. Nikhil has managed to direct Govinda back into form, and at the same time, a foreign actress in a Hindi film. The film relies much on chit-chat scenes between the two protagonists and these are executed masterfully.
