Deepa Mehta to direct the ‘Babel’ beauty

For celebrated Canadian director of Indian origin, Deepa Mehta is surely making a lot of news in the international media. Hollywood beckons this creative director who had her share of controversies in the form of her trilogy Fire, Earth and now, Water. The director is now all set to direct Babel’s beauty Cate Blanchett in her forthcoming project.

Deepa Mehta’s next movie tentatively titled as The Julia Project is a Focus Films production. The film’s shooting will begin after Deepa Mehta’s Oscar’s night. Deepa says, “It’s a film set in the 1950s in Manhattan and chronicles the life, romantic and otherwise, of a coal-miner’s daughter. It’s based on a true story.”

Deepa Mehta’s choice for the female lead in The Julia Project is Brad Pitt’s Babel’s Cate Blanchett. Cate has earlier worked with another Indian film-maker before. She played Queen Elizabeth in Shekhar Kapoor’s maiden Hollywood venture.
