Review 2006: RS Top 20 Bollywood Movies

# 17 - Humko Deewana Kar Gaye

Starring: Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Bipasha Basu, Bhagyashree, Helen, Anil Kapoor
Director: Raj Kanwar,
Producer: Raj Kanwar, Krishan Kumar, Bhushan Kumar
Art: R. Verman
Music: Annu Malik, Himesh Reshammiya
Cinematographer: Vikas Sivaraman
Editing: Kuldip Mehan
Screenplay: Raj Kanwar

Raj Kanwar’s love story of an agonised lover looked good on-screen because of the attractive pairing of Akshay and Katrina, though the movie lacked a real good script to bag the laurels. The film’s music did well in the market especially the song “Fanaa”. The movie was declared as a flop and earned Rs. 14.17 Crores in eight weeks.

Synopsis: Aditya (Akshay) is engaged to Sonia (Bipasha) and Jia is engaged to industrialist Karna Oberoi (Anil Kapoor). The couples have their own problems as Sonia is an ambitious woman and on the other hand, Sonia is a simple girl whose father chooses a groom who is engrossed in his work. Jia and Aditya meet in Canada where Aditya has come for some work and Jia has come for her wedding shopping. Both develop a close friendship and then the spark, but they return back to India for their respective marriages. They meet again on Jia’s wedding and soon along Karan finds out about them and bring the lovers together and unusual end with Jia married to Aditya…. bore!

So, the movie is a lift from many of the Hollywood and Bollywood movies. Same boring script and pace. There no element of surprise or excitement in the storyline. The climax is stretched and lacks the punch. The film has some good and average performances. But, apart from the cinematography and picturisation, the film lacks soul. Editing and screenplay are the biggest drawback of the story.
