The blockbuster movie of the year created waves both in India and the overseas with immaculate comic timing and the Gandhian thoughts given to an indifferent nation in the form of Munna Bhai’s unique interpretation as “Gandhigiri”. The simplicity and innocence in the movie gave the nation the timeless principles of Mahatma Gandhi in a different way. The movie is India’s un-official entry at the Academy awards. The movie has been applauded all across the world with special screens at the UN meetings. The movie continues to run at many of the theatres with over 10+ weeks to its credits. It has already earned nearly 70 Crores by this time.
Synopsis: Munna Bhai, the protagonist is in love with a Radio Jockey Jhanvi he hears daily on the radio. His good buddy and side-kick Circuit helps him
out in getting the girl. Munna’s only hope to win her heart is by avidly following the teachings of Gandhiji. But the movie is not that serious, a hell no! The movie has its doses of laughter with Circuit and Munna’s comic geniuses. Munna’s belief in Gandhi and he’s hallucinations of the great man made him a changed person who tries to use Gandhigiri to work out things between him and his girl. Munna’s friend Lucky causes all the trouble as he wants Jhanvi’s house where she lives with her Grandpa and has many senior citizens living there as their own house named “Second Innings”. Lucky has to get that plot for his daughter’s would-be father-in-law. Lucky goes against his good friend Munna and gets the house evicted. Munna uses Gandhigiri magic through non-violence and tolerance and ultimately, wins back the house. Munna helps out Lucky’s daughter while her wedding was in trouble and made Lucky realise his fault. Munna gets the house for Jhanvi and Jhanvi is all Munna’s. So, a happy ending.
The movie is fun-filled and a wholesome entertainer. In it’s most simplest of ways it told us how relevant are the talisman of Mahatma Gandhi even today. The movie popularised the principles of non-violence and truth in a manner that was both positive and in sync with the demands of the current generation. Munna surely taught the nation Gandhism not in a boring bookish manner, but rather in Munna’s own tapori style and making it work at the level of the common man. The movie brings back the comic duo of Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi who are immaculate in their respective roles. Vidya Balan also does a good job and all in all a great story by Rajkumar Hirani.
