In the season of remakes, Farhan Akhtar tries to recreate the magic of Big B’s yester years’ Don this year. The SRK starrer opened big time at the theatres pulling crowds due to King Khan’s presence and its sleek publicity. The film was declared a hit much later than its release. It earned Rs 49.97 Crores for 8 weeks of showing. It has been immensely successful in the overseas market. It’s the numero uno film in the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil.
Synopsis: An Indian contingent embarks on a trail of capturing DON (Shah Rukh Khan) - the ruthless drug mafia in Malaysia. When DON gets seriously injured in a police encounter, the word that he is dead begins to do the rounds. The reality is that DON is held captive in a secret location, while his look-alike, Vijay, is sent to take down DON’s gang. But, when the man shielding the humble and streetwise Vijay, is killed, the latter realises that both the police and the gang are hunting for him. In a desperate attempt to prove his innocence, he is aided by the glamorous Roma (Priyanka Chopra), and Jasjit (Arjun Rampal), who owes Vijay a favour for care-taking his son during his imprisonment.
The fresh look and stunning art direction and cinematography is very impressive. Farhan Akhtar scores in giving his own twists in the tale and making it look more interesting. SRK filling in Big B’s shoes is not that convincing though SRK is good with the effort put in by him. The film, if not compared to the classic Don of the 70’s is a good try at a remake.
