Will Ramu ruin Amitabh’s career?

Another week goes by, and another Ask Tony. I know you guys eagerly await for it, and I will not let you wait much longer… go on read it… you know you want to…

Manisha: Why have you been late with our column again? It’s nearly Monday and no Ask Tony this weekend?
Tony: As you say, it’s nearly Monday, it isn’t Monday yet.

Jenna: Your thoughts on Baabul, we never got to read your review of it?
The decision on who would write the review was made by the RS management, and they decided that for this time they would go with someone else, and give the reader a different perspective. But what is funny, is that the reviewer (Ishani), came to the same conclusions as I would have. The film is abysmal, a shambles, a total waste of three hours. I went to the theatre, thinking that I was about to watch a weeping tragedy with lots of emotion and hard hitting scenes, instead what I got to see was an over-blown version of an Australian television soap. The only good thing about the film is its main star, the legend that is Amitabh Bachchan. Never once has he disappointed me. He truly is a delight to watch. Amitabh is going through a period in his career, which is by far his best yet. Hollywood actors tend to mature as the years pass, which hasn’t been the case for Bollywood actors, however Big B is an exception. If you haven’t yet seen the film, then I would recommend that you go and see it for Amitabh Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan alone. The rest of the cast is time-pass.

Akeel: Is Munna Bhai going to America?
Tony: If you mean if the third instalment of the Munna Bhai saga, takes out Munna to America, then yes! It has been rumoured, but nothing has been confirmed. I think a proper announcement will be made by Vidhu Vinod Chopra as soon as the whole court case saga is put to rest. Talking about trilogies, it seems the Hera Pheri trio might also be going USA. International Hera Pheri is being planned.

Anul: Is it true that Aishwarya Rai has been dumped from the cast of Sarkar 2?
Tony: Nothing has been confirmed, and these are just baseless rumours. But, between you and me, I don’t think Aishwarya Rai will be dumped. She and Ram Gopal Verma might come to an amicable agreement, whereby she decides that the role is not for her. After all, she is the Bachchan’s hot property, and the Bachchans would not like her to be named and ashamed in public. If Ramu has a problem with her ‘ego’, which is what is being reported by the media, then it might be best if they do part ways. Let’s wait and see what happens. Now that you have raised the subject of Ramu and the Bachchans, I would like to add something here which has been worrying me for quite some time. Ramu’s remake of Sholay keeps running into trouble, and now with Mohit being replaced in the Jai role, I fear that the film is a disaster in the making. I am worried that Ramu might ruin Amitabh Bachchan’s career. Even though Amitabh Bachchan is going great guns at the moment, it only takes a little something from someone, and there goes the career. If I was Amitabh Bachchan, I would quietly leave the role of Gabbar Singh, and also decide not to do Sarkar 2. I think it is time that Amitabh left Ramu’s camp, before Nishabd releases. I fear that this ‘sexually active’ film might be the beginning of the end of Amitabh’s career. Do you agree?

Dhanish: Did you see Aishwarya’s behind in The Last Legion trailer?
Tony: If you mean a pass-by-sell-date former Miss World trying to make it big in Hollywood coming out of the water all wet exposing her behind deliberately to the camera, then yes I did see it. But the question you should ask is “Has Abhishek Bachchan seen the trailer?”

Chandni: Any news on Pappu Paas Ho Gaya?
The film you mention is being planned by the B. R. Chopra camp. They intend to begin production on the film soon and hope to complete shooting within weeks. The film is a situational comedy that stars Amitabh Bachchan in a comedy role. The film might also have guest appearances by Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla. The story of the film is similar to the Hollywood hit My Cousin Vinny. Amitabh is expected to play a lawyer who has never fought a case in his life, and suddenly he is asked to take on a murder case. However, the film might have some legal trouble of its own, as its title is very similar to a Jackie Shroff starrer, which is also currently in pre-production stage, Aur Pappu Paas Ho Gaya. All I can say is that ‘Pappu Yaar Thang Na Karr’.

Samaira: Did you hear? Did you hear what my favourite football club Chelsea have done? The footballers are going to be in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. Wow, I can’t wait. Can you?
Tony: What is the big deal? What is the big deal I ask? I am not a lover of Chelsea, and therefore am not really interested. All I want to know, is why did Yash Raj Films approach Chelsea and not Manchester United, or Liverpool, Arsenal, or even Accrington Stanley?

Noman: I hate you for saying all those bad things about DON. DON was the bomb.
Tony: You said it yourself, DON was indeed a bomb.

Jai: What are your expectations on Guru and Salaam-E-Ishq?
Tony: Both are experimental films, and both are targeted to different types of audience. Guru I expect will be a well-made film, very thought provoking and with a good story, but I worry for its final Box Office outcome. I don’t think it will do that well, especially with the ‘Jodi No. Bomb’ as the leads. That’s Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan for those that do not know. Salaam-E-Ishq I am eagerly awaiting, and am also excited about. My all time favourite actor Govinda stars in it. Govinda has not had the best of times recently, and he surely deserves a break. For me, after Amitabh Bachchan, he is the next genuine good quality actor. He has played around with his career and therefore has tainted it. But all is not lost, and with some good roles, he can get back up that ladder.

That’s all for this week, more from me in the days to come. Leave your questions in the comments section below, to have them answered.

    What a stupid question!

It would take WAYY more than that to ruin Amitabh’s illustrious career.

The best lead actor Indian cinema has ever seen (him and Dilip saab).

So you are asking if a legendary actor chooses to experiment a bit here and there, it can ruin his career?

Come on, my friend. You know it - you can’t touch the Big B.

    I DONT THINK SO.
INDIAN ACTORS MUST DWELL INTO MORE AND MORE CHALLENGING AND POWERFUL ROLES.
SO WHAT IF SEX IS A BACKDROP.
IF EXECUTED WELL, IT MIGHT JUST CHURN OUT A SURPRISE.REMEMBER MURDER??

AND BIG B IS A PROFESSIONAL. SO IS RAMU. THE FILM SEEMS TAUT.
