GIFA: Munna Bhai wins best film award
Bole to…. The award goes to…. Lage Raho Munna Bhai. Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s blockbuster hit movie won the award for the best film at the second Global Indian Film Festival in Kuala Lumpur. The ‘Gandhigiri’ element seems to be working for the movie which was also won in the best story category at the gala.
The other show-stealer was Omprakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti which won a total of eight awards at the awards show. India’s official entry for the Oscars won in the following categories: Best Director, Best Supporting Actress (Soha Ali Khan), Best Music (A R Rahman), Best Lyrics, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Back ground Score (A R Rahman) and Best Art Director.
The grand event was quite a success with 4,000 cheering fans witnessing the show where Bollywood stars dazzled and performed on stage. Among the distinguished who attended the awards night were Malaysia’s Queen, Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi and Deputy Premier Najib Tun Razak.
