Sanjay Dutt facing jail sentence
A massive gathering flocked the entrance gates of the TADA court in Mumbai on Tuesday. The special hearing of the case regarding the charges of 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai, against Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt had to take place. Sanjay was sentenced to 5-yr imprisonment under the Arms act.
At 10:25 in the morning, Sanjay Dutt arrived amongst tight security at the TADA court. Well-wishers and media-persons flanked outside the court’s premises.
At 12:45, the hearing of the case was started and thereafter, Sanjay Dutt was given the penalties accordingly.
Found guilty in: Of charges framed under the Sections 3 and 7 read with Section 25 of the Arms Act. He defended himself saying that the illegal possession of the weapons was for self-defence. He possessed three AK-56 rifles, its ammunition, 9 mm pistol, its cartridges and hand grenades, which were part of the consignment smuggled by Tiger Memon.
Acquitted in: Of charges framed under Section 120-b of the Indian Penal Code (conspiracy) and Section 3 (3) of TADA. He was not involved in the conspiracy of the serial blasts in Mumbai on Friday, 12th March ‘93.
After that Sanjay Dutt appealed for a bail.
An emotional Sanjay Dutt: When the court resumed its proceedings, Sanjay Dutt asked for mercy. He talked of his only daughter studying abroad, her education funding, and that he has to take care of his two sisters and his father’s property after his demise.
Court grants an extended bail to Sanjay Dutta till 19th December.
With limited number of days in hand before his bail ends, Sanjay has to wind up all his pending projects and his family matters. But, was Sanjay Dutt given the apt verdict? Was he really innocent in the conspiracy of serial blasts? Why time and again his name crops up with the underworld?
