Remixes singing a sorry tale

Gone are the days of Kaliyon Ka Chaman, Kaanta Laga et al. scorching the music charts. The ‘hot property’ tag is slowly diminishing from the face of the remixes of the yester year’s popular numbers. Initially, DJs found remixing as a style to showcase their talent… Or probably, play with the classics because of the lack of creativity. Who knows! Exceptions are there in the form of famous composers like Bappi Lahiri who came out with remix albums along with his crooner daughter Reema Lahiri. Today, remixes like “Yeh mera dil..”, Khaike Paan..” are popular among the audience but are not chartbusters.

On the decreasing craze of remixes, DJ Akbar Sami says, “Remixing is an art which can never die as long as music is alive. Just incorporating stuff in the original is no remix..” Even Ram Gopal Verma asked for a completely different song for the “Mehbooba Mehbooba” number, to be composed by Ganesh hegde.

So, do we finally see an end to the remixes? Write me your comments.
