Ravishing Malaika Arora Depicts Her Heart on Nach Baliyee
The curvaceous-sexy gal of Bollywood and Indian entertainment industry Malaika Arora Khan, who is currently judging the celeb couples on Star One’s popular mega dance show ‘Nach Baliyee 2’, doles out her views in a very casual mood to Goher Iqbal Punn (Bollywood Analyst).
Goher: How do you feel to be back in Nach Baliye?
Malaika: The day Star One approached me with the idea of judging Nach Baliye again, I said yes instantly. It’s an absolutely novel idea and format and I am enjoying every minute of it. There’s not been a minute when I’ve felt bored and wondered why I’m here. What I love about the show are the surprises… It’s full of them. Take for instance the show will be running for 13 weeks instead of 10…and also the Wild Card Round which will give one eliminated couple another chance to be back on the show!
Goher: Who is your favourite Jodi in Nach Baliye 2?
Malaika: I personally do not know any of the television jodis. And as a judge it would be biased if I were to favour one jodi over the other. All the couples have been rehearsing hard and we do understand that not everyone is born a great dancer. The current line-up will of -course be different from the last year’s bunch as no 2 jodis for that matter are also alike. A high-ranking couple on one show could score low on the other week. Or a low-scoring couple could top the charts. Honestly, I can never predict how a particular couple will perform till one sees them on stage.

Goher: Have you seen them personally rehearsing and who could you say is the best of all?
Malaika: No, I have not seen any of them rehearse therefore cannot say who is the better one of them. But I am sure, like last year, there will be a lot of surprise elements in this season too.
Goher: Have you done any kind of make over for Nach Baliye?
Malaika: No makeover, I am the same. The only change has been that Farhan is not doing it as he is busy with DON.
Goher: Your outfits were quite appreciated in the first season. How different are they this time?
Malaika: I am sure my outfits this season will be applaud worthy too. And they are being done. I do not want to reveal too much but there will be a nice mix of clothes – Indian and otherwise. I will not deviate from my choice of clothes as I have a very diverse taste and there will be something definitely to watch out…!
Goher: Have you seen Jhalak Dikhlaya if yes, what do you feel about it and specially Shilpa Shetty?
Malaika: No, I haven’t seen any episode but I believe that competition is always healthy and it always enhances the quality of work that is displayed.
Goher: What do you have to say about people who have a weight problem and try to dance? Do you think a certain body structure only can make the best dance moves?
Malaika: The weight of the body definitely does effect your movements and postures but what I feel is the personality combined with great dance moves, chemistry and effort. It would be incorrect for me to say that fat people cannot dance as we have great people on the plus side who can move with stupendous energy and grace – Last year Delnaaz Paul was extremely graceful. Ganesh Acharya, the Bollywood choreographer is so agile. In my opinion, it’s not the body structure but the style, grace and flexibility that matter more.
Goher: What enticed you to judge a dance competition? Are you a trained dancer yourself?
Malaika: No, I am not a trained dancer but have been dancing from as long as I can remember. Therefore can definitely understand the different forms in dancing, the styling, the postures, the lines one makes while dancing etc.. What enticed me to become a judge in Nach Baliye was the uniqueness of getting 10 celebrities on one platform to judge them for their dance and not their histrionic skills. Moreover dance is something I thoroughly love and enjoy. It’s the best form of unwinding and relaxation.
Goher: With Saroj Khan and you being retained at the panel, the latest entrant is filmmaker Kunal Kohli. Do you think the previous trio with Farhan Akhtar was better or this time, you three would outdo the last year’s combination? How keen is Kunal about the nuances of dancing?
Malaika: Yes, I am definitely missing Farhan on the show as we at Nach Baliye had become like a family. But he is busy with DON. Kunal is doing complete justice to his role as a judge. Although I have met him only socially, we will definitely break ice after some time. And all the judges in their own rights, know the finer nuances of dancing, where Sarojji would be critical of the choreography and the technical aspects of dancing, Kunal would be more to the look and feel of the dance. I would look at the enjoyment and movements while the jodis would be dancing.
Goher: How do you react to the “sex-bomb” or a “sultry siren” tag in the glam industry?
Malaika: For starters, it’s a huge compliment because every one in this industry is given a tag… like Mr Bachchan is called the angry young man…As long as it is called tastefully and in good spirit, I have no qualms about it.

Goher: You have sort of brought in the oomph factor with class in item numbers. Did you initially have any qualms of being called an item girl in Bollywood?
Malaika: I started with Chaiyya Chaiyya. I would rather being called the ‘Chaiiya Chaiyya girl’, than the item girl, because now the item girl tag carries with it several connotations. Dancing is my passion; therefore I do it for the thrill of performing rather than making it look purposefully sexy.
Goher: Thanks a lot Malaika for sharing your thoughts.
Malaika: Pleasures mine.
