Latadidi is my favourite singer: Asha Bhosle
Asha Bhosle’s loves her husband and friend R D Burman. It is a special album, says the legendary singer. In a tête-à-tête, Bhosle remixes RD for us!
Why do you think Panchamda’s music still holds relevance?
His music is timeless. That’s why people like it. I still see many youngsters tuning into music that he produced 15 years ago. His music will never go out of fashion.
You must be missing him…I miss him every second. That is the reason why I want to keep him alive by promoting his timeless songs.
Any special memories you have of him, something that you feel like recounting now?
There are so many memories; we spent a great time together. I remember that he would cook for me, though I was a good cook myself. We would go out on drives, mostly at night and spend quiet moments together. Those days were so romantic, so good that I cannot forget them easily. But yeah, Pancham was so tuned into music that he would sing for me; he would play tabla even when we went out (laughs). But it was fun. I really miss him.
Any new-age singer that you like?
Latadidi (Mangeshkar) remains my favourite singer. You can’t beat her, no one can take her place. These young singers might be talented but I have not been following them. I still live in my old world. Music for me, means, those old-time songs, which would touch our hearts and had a certain honesty in their tunes.
