Irrfan livid at rumours of link-up with Manisha

“Please, Manisha’s a friend”

Irrfan Khan aka Maqbool is livid at rumours of his link-up with Manisha Koirala.

Lately, Irrfan Khan has been dealing with some unbelievable rumours – primarily his link-up with Manisha Koirala. Apparently, they hit off amazingly well on the sets of Tulsi and ever since, they have been gushing about each other, praising one another at ever possible places. ”That’s what might have led to the rumours,” wonders Irrfan, adding, “At first, I didn’t believe when one journalist asked me this. I thought to myself, “Man, even I didn’t know about it? Come on, I mean, I was having an affair and I am getting to know about it from others. Manisha’s a friend and please understand that. But yes, I would admit to one thing –that I have become a fan of Manisha after acting with her. She is a natural actress. And she is a fabulous human being too.”

Of course, Irrfan is mighty impressed with Manisha, but it is Tulsi which he is more excited about. “It is a highly emotional film, something which will hit you in your face. I like working in such movies, which have a strong script,” says Irrfan.

Another film that Irrfan is eagerly looking forward to is Mira Nair’s The Namesake, where he reportedly has a towering role opposite Tabu with whom he was linked during the shoot of Maqbool as well as Namesake. Says Irrfan, “This is one film which has loads of expectations. My films never have any expectations so I am not used to being looked forward to!” He adds, “Though I haven’t spoken to Mira for a while now, I have been told that she is impressed with the film and the way it has shaped up. But it would really be wrong to say that The Namesake is the only film I am excited about. I give equal importance to each of my films. Like Naseer’s (Naseeruddin Shah) film Yun Hota To Kya Hota was equally important to me as the relatively-smaller Deadline.”

Ask him why Dubai Return, which has been winning rave reviews at the various film festivals, has been stuck and he says, “Even I don’t know what’s happening. I think the producers will be able to answer this question.” Meanwhile, one complaint that the media has with Irrfan is that he is inaccessible and is moody. “That’s a wrong notion. I respect the media, they have been very good to me. In fact, I owe my success to them, because they highlighted that the fact, ‘look here’s an actor.”
