MOVIE REVIEW: GAFLA (2006)
Many movies have released at the Bollywood box office this week, and most of them are pure rubbish, apart from this… I am a fan of thought provoking films and love to watch them, as they give me many hours of thinking afterwards, and this film has done exactly that.
The film is more like a biography of a stock market fraudster. Subodh is like any other young man, he as aspirations and dreams, he wants to be rich and powerful. And that is why he delves into the world of stock markets. However, he doesn’t think of what this may have in store for him, especially as this market already has many big sharks.
So Subodh has to make a decision, should he stick with his principles and spend his life a econd rate citizen, or should he become a shark himself and become rich and powerful? He opts for the latter.
But Subodh fails to stop and keeps going on… and soon comes to the brink of losing everything.
Debutante director Sameer Hanchate has chosen a very unusual subject for his first film, but it is a subject that has worked, albeit story-wise. However, a subject like this is not for the masses and appeals to a select few, like myself. And this is the main point on which this film will not do well.
The film has not been promoted – wonder why! And because of the non-promotion it will suffer in establishing a good run at the box office.
