MOVIE REVIEW: BHOOT UNKLE (2006)
Cast: Jackie Shroff, Dev Kantawala
So many second rate movies have released this week that I feel like I have been living in the cinema for the past few days. It would have been worthwhile had any one of these films was good, but that is how life is, or Bollywood life is. Sometimes this happens…
And sometimes a ghost happens. A ghost that looks like a pirate from that Johnny Depp film. A friendly ghost like Casper. And this ghost is Jackie Shroff. The last actor I would hire to play a ghost…
A 12 year old orphan Shyam, whose life is not a bed of roses, stumbles upon a ghost of a pirate. The ghost has been trapped in a lighthouse for hundreds of years and longs to be released. Shyam releases him and this ghost then helps him solve the mystery of the missing Lord Shiva idol.
Dev Kantawala is the find of the season. His acting as the kid is brilliant and he actually gives veteran actor Jackie Shroff word for thought. He steals every scene that he appears in.
Jackie Shroff as the ghost doesn’t work. His appearance in the second film is a let-down. This film may be something that he wanted to do, but he really should not have, it is a total disaster for him.
The film’s story is a complete letdown and satisfaction amongst its core audience will not be there.
A film made for kids needs to be a little more entertaining… this is not.
