MOVIE REVIEW: KHOSLA KA GHOSLA (2006)

Director: Dibakar Bannerjee
Producer: Savita Raj Hiremath
Cast: Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Tara Sharma and Parvin Dabas

Khosla Ka Ghosla is not a film about stars. It has a story and that’s a rarity. If you want to only watch a film which has big Bollywood stars, don’t read this review. Go watch KANK.

If you want to watch a well made films about the lives of people around you, read on…

Kamal Kishore Khosla (Anupam Kher) is the patriarch of the Khosla family is a bit more tense than men his age with troubles from all sides - a teenager daughter who is tomboyish, a younger son who does no work (Ranvir Shorey), an elder son Cherry who only works (Parvin Dabas) and a wife who is constantly nagging him. Life gets worse when he buys a land through a broker in a affluent south Delhi locality and realises that the broker has taken him for a ride as the land belong to a fraudlike businessman Kishen Khurana (Boman Irani).

Cherry is in love with Megha (Tara Sharma), but is unable to profess love to this theatre actress friend of his. In the middle of the rigmarole, Cherry, is trying to get to the US with the help of his visa agent Asif Iqbal (Vinay Pathak). Soon Iqbal helps Cherry and Khosla to get back the plot from Khurana.

The film is simple and has no great technical values. The other problem with the film is that the film was ready three years ago and hence has a work out look.

Otherwise with some terrific storytelling, brilliant screenplay and dialogues pertaining to daily Delhi life, the film rocks. Anupam Kher plays his role with ease and Parvin Dabas’s character grows with you. Ranvir Shorey does well too. Boman Irani is his usual self and does not do anything extraordinary. Tara Shamra looks very pretty but needs to work on her dialogue delivery. Debutant director Dibakar Bannerjee does well.

The film is a fun caper for people who live in Indian metros. One is not sure about its international appeal.
